Women's Basketball Loses To #10 Seawolves

Bucs drop first gamea t Cesar Odio Classic

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost their first game in the Cesar Odio Classic to 10th-ranked Alaska-Anchorage 60-41 in women's basketball action in Health & Sports Center on Friday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs got off to a very cold start, hitting just 3-of-14 from the floor in the first quarter. After Nerea Baena cut the lead to 7-6 with a layup at 5:19 of the quarter, the Seawolves scored the last 13 points of the period. | UAA 20, Barry 6
  • 2Q - Kedranea' Addison sank a three-pointer with 5:17 left to put the Seawolves up by 23, 35-12, giving them their biggest lead of the half. | UAA 39, Barry 18
  • 3Q - The Bucs rallied a litte to start the second half. Though the Seawolves still led by 23, 45-22, with 5:14 left, the Bucs went on a 9-0 run to get it to 45-31 on a free throw by Nichel Tampa. Harriett Swindells, who hit a pair of free throws in the last second, led the Bucs with 8 points in the frame. | UAA 49, Barry 33
  • 4Q - In the forth quarter, the Bucs closed to within 15, at 53-38 on a fast-break basket by Tampa, but that was as close as they would get, as they missed six of their seven shots from the field. | UAA 60, Barry 41

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Swindells led the Bucs with 16 points as the only player to score doubel-figures.
  • Yazmeen Goo led the Seawolves with 13 points and Safiyyah Yasin added 11. 
  • The teams combined to miss 73 shots and turn the ball over 40 times.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs will face the Daemen Wildcats on Saturday.
