MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost their Sunshine State Conference men's basketball opener to the Florida Southern Moccasins 80-74 in the Health & Sports Center on Saturday.

- 1st Half -- After the Bucs scored the first four points, the Mocs went on an 16-0 run, led by Jair Rodgers' two triples and six points from Brett Hansen. The Mocs took their biggest lead, 15 points at 31-16, on a Hansen jumper at 6:39 and carried a 12-point lead into the half. | Florida Southern 42, Barry 30 Â
- 2nd Half -- Tylan Birts tried to carry the team coming out of the locker room, scoring 14 of the Bucs' first 19 points of the period. Barry's 19-12 run cut the Mocs lead to 54-49, on a basket by Birts at 11:30. After the Mocs pushed the lead back to eight, the Bucs mounted another run, 11-5, to cut the lead to just two on an Evan Walshe three-pointer at 7:34. FSC pushed the lead back to nine with an 11-4 run of their own, then leading 73-69, scored seven of the next nine points to clinch the win. | FSC 80, Barry 74
NOTEWORTHY:
- Birts' 24 points and 13 rebounds were match by FSC's Hansen to top both squads.
- Walshe had 20 points for the Bucs off the bench, while Leandro Allende had 11 and Jake Kakar added 10.
- Rodgers backed Hansen with 20 points, on 6-of-13 shooting from three-point range. Jack Rauch chipped in 13 points.
- In a game with 112 missed shots, the Bucs out-rebounded the Mocs 54-50.
- FSC out-scored the Bucs 16-5 on fast-break points, but the Bucs, thanks to Walshe, led 25-9 off the bench.
