Women's Soccer Shuts Out High-Powered Sharks

Bucs move up to a tie for third in the conference

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers posted their fourth straight win with a 2-0 Sunshine State Conference victory over the Nova Southeastern Sharks in women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Wednesday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 34:20 - The Bucs struck first after a corner kick. Minda Forsblom got the ball in the midfield and switched it out to Bella Fitzhenry on the left wing. Fitzhenry's entry found Dani Diaz loose and Diaz buried the ice-breaker from 12 yards out.
  • 57:22 - Barry added an insurance goal in the second half. Sarah Wignall took a vicious, curving shot from just outside the box that Natalie Robayna managed to block, but Lauren Hall was there to tap in the rebound and 2-0 lead.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Maddie Hart-Pomerantz, who has won four straight in goal, posted her third straight shutout. Against the high-powered Sharks, who lead the SSC in scoring with 44 goals, she made seven saves to record her fourth clean sheet of the year.
  • The Bucs' two goals in the game equaled the number the Sharks had allowed in the first 11 games.
  • Robayna had six saves, but allowed two goals to take the loss.
  • The Sharks are now 0-2-1 in their last three games, after starting off the season 10-0-0.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to Lakeland, Fla., to face the Lady Mocs of Florida Southern pm Saturday, Oct. 26.
