ROME, Ga.--It's deja vu all over again at the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga., as Barry and Columbus State will face off for the title on Sunday for the fourth time in a row for a major title.
In the last two national team championships, the Bucs and Cougars have faced off, with each winning one. In last year's national singles championship, CSU's KP Pannu defeated Barry's Pierre Montrieul. And this season, Alejandro Ibañez Gallego and Alvaro Regulato will face off for the singles title.
Ibañez Gallego defeated freshman Samuel Sippel of Azusa Pacific 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) in a tight battle. Ibañez Gallego was seeded number two, while Sippel was the fourth seed.
Ibañez Gallego will now face Regulato, the top seed, on Sunday. He defeated the Cougar 6-0, 6-3 last season during the regular season.
