ROME, Ga.--All three Buccaneers advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center on Thursday.
Third-seeded Jil Engelmann defeated Erin Schlagenhauf of Flagler 6-4, 6-2. She will face Tatjana Stoll of Northwestern State in the quarterfinal. Stoll was ranked 12th in the final spring poll last season, while Engelmann was 39th.
In the men's draw, second-seeded Alejandro Ibañez Gallego downed Midwestern State's Angel Palacios 6-1, 6-4. He will now face Dario Huber of Indianapolis. Ibañez Gallego was ranked 20th in the final poll last season, while Huber was unranked. Allesandro Giuliato handled Tom Schmieta of Bluefield State 6-3, 6-1 and will now face St. Edwards' Anish Sriniketh in the quarterfinals. Giuliato was ranked 24th last season, as a member of the Hawai'i Pacific Vulcans. Sriniketh was ranked 30th.
