MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University volleyball coach Steve Hendricks announced the signing of Viktoria Velika, an NJCAA Division I transfer from Navarro College.
Velika is a 6-foot-2 outside-hitter/right side from Hlinne, Slovakia who led Navarro as a sophomore last year with 2.46 kills per set. During her two year career in Corsicana, Texas the Bulldogs went 65-19 with Velika accumulating over 700 kills and 150 blocks. As a sophomore, the Slovakian was a first-team All-Region XIV conference outside hitter, helping Navarro to a school-best 38-7 record, the No. 3 NJCAA ranking and an Elite Eight finish in its first-ever NJCAA Volleyball Tournament appearance. As a freshman, Velika was named second-team All-Region XIV after finishing the season with 392 kills.
"We're happy to add a player like Viktoria to our program," Buccaneer head coach Steve Hendricks said. "Viktoria is a proven winner that brings great experience as a hitter and blocker from the right side. She is a quality person both on and off the court, with great work ethic," added Hendricks.
"I chose Barry because when I came on my visit and met the staff and the players, it felt like I was around family," Velika shared. "I love the city of Miami and I can't wait till the season starts."
Aside from her American collegiate career, Velika was also a member of the Slovakian junior national team from 2013-2016. She was on the roster that competed in the CEV European Championships in both 2015 and 2016.
