Men's Hoops Falls to Lynn Late 72-71

Lynn's Jamal Palmer banked-in a layup with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock to put Lynn on top.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Buccaneers lost a heartbreaker against their crosstown rival, the Lynn Fighting Knights 72-71 on Wednesday night in Boca Raton, Fla. Lynn's Jamal Palmer banked-in a layup with 0.5 seconds remaining on the clock to keep the Knights' record perfect at home. Lynn is now 11-0 at the De Hoernle Center. Johannes Dolven set a new career-high in scoring with 22 points, he also pulled down eight rebounds.

SUMMARY:

  • Milon Sheffield (10 points) and Isaiah Hobbs (8 points) led the way for Barry in the first half. The Buccaneers led by six with nine minutes left in the first half. 
  • Both teams went into their respective locker rooms at the half going 12-30 from the field (40 percent shooting)
  • Lynn started the second half on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to nine, their largest of the game. The Buccaneers would counter with a 15-2 run after a Justinas Marcinkevicius layup gave Barry a four point lead with 11:27 left in the game. 
  • Closing games out with a lead has been an issue recently for the Bucs. With 4:49 remaining, Barry was up 65-60, but couldn't convert free throw attempts. The Bucs went 14-26 from the line in the second half. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • This is the first loss against Lynn for Barry since March 15, 2015 during the NCAA Tournament. 
  • Dolven scored 17-of-his-22 points in the second half. He went 5-for-5 from the field. 
  • Barry's bench continues to produce. Tonight the Bucs bench outscored the Knights 39-12. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs return home on Saturday, January 26th against Tampa inside the Health & Sports Center. Barry defeated the Spartans during their first matchup this year 83-71 on December 1st. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm.
