ATHENS, Ga. -- Barry University's Men's Tennis team opened the fall season at the ASI Championships hosted by the University of Georgia on Friday. The action continued on Saturday and on the second day the Bucs looked to rebound from an up-and-down day one and secured a couple of singles victories.
THE MATCHUPS
The Bucs faced tough competition in this tournament with eight of their nine matches taking place against Division I opponents.
SUMMARY:
- Barry began the day against stiff competition in the doubles bracket, losing all three of there doubles games
- Pierre Montrieul and Blake Blaydon fought a tough battle against Lipscomb's Pablo Caffarena and Victor Shaw but lost a narrowly in a 8-6 defeat.
- Vivien Versier and Daniel Ventura had an even closer match, losing in an extra set 8-7(9).
- Versier rebounded nicely with an excellent win (7-6, 6-0) over FAU's Kirac Bekisoglu to advance to the Quarterfinals of the DI Singles bracket.
- Pierre Mondtrieul will move to the consolation bracket after losing his round of 16 match today to Georgia's Robert Loeb (3-6, 3-6) while Daniel Ventura and Carlos Gomez both suffered loses in the consolation bracket in similar fashion.
- Blake Blaydon will also find himself in a consolation bracket now after he lost his match to Georgia's Blake Croyder in the DII Singles bracket.
- The day ended on a high note for Barry with Ignasi Forcano advancing in the DI Singles consolation bracket after his triumph (6-3, 7-5) over Lipscomb's Caffarena.
ON THE HORIZON:
Barry will look to repeat their success tomorrow during day three of the ASI Championships as play continues.
