Bucs take on St. Edward's, Saint Michael's and West Georgia

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women's soccer team kicks off the 2018 season with a daunting three games in four days this weekend.

"As we start to approach the beginning of this difficult non-conference stretch, we are aware of how important it is for our team to start the season out strong against tough opponents," head coach Sarah Dacey said. "Three games in four days will be quite a test for us. We are looking forward to the challenge."

Barry then travels up to Winter Park, Fla., to face the West Georgia Wolves in a neutral site game at Rollins' Cahall-Sandspur Field on Sunday. Sarah Wignall and Molly Sharpe posted the goals in the preseason, while Melanie Zeigner and Maddie Hart-Pomerantz split time between the pipes in the shutouts.

The St. Edward's Hilltoppers are coming off a 11-3-5 overall record and 9-2-3 in the Heartland Conference last season, reaching the championships semifinal and finishing second on regular season. The Hilltoppers return midfielder Sabrina Cone, who made All-Region and Conference First Team in 2017.

The Saint Michael's Purple Knights finished last in the Northeast-10 Conference, with a 3-11-2 overall record and 2-11-1 against league rivals. Midfielder Taryn Manna, who earned Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team last season, headlines the returners.

The West Georgia Wolves had an 8-9-0 record overall and 7-7-0 in the Gulf South Conference, finishing eighth in the league. Rising sophomore midfielder Nikki Conte had four goals and three assists a year ago, while rising senior Julia Atenza topped the Wolves with five goals.
