MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 1-ranked men's tennis team beat Benedict, 5-0, Monday in the NCAA Division II South Region semifinals at Buccaneer Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Buccaneers coasted through the match in less than two hours, sending them on to Tuesday's 10 a.m. region championship match.
Barry swept doubles for the eighth time this year, paving the way for a comfortable 3-Love lead it quickly cashed in on when its bottom two singles positions wrapped up the match.

- Flavio Matteoli was flawless in his 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Perrin at No. 6 singles. That put the Bucs on the brink of clinching.
- In a race to the finish between the Nos. 1 and 5 matches, Bayldon prevailed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Flores at 5 to secure the team's victory.
- Eighteenth-ranked Gomez was leading Eloise, 6-0, 5-0 when the match ended at five.
- The Bucs were leading in the top four singles matches, each one up a set.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Matteoli has won five straight matches, with another unfinished during the past month.
- Bayldon picked up his first singles victory in 23 days to become the sixth Buccaneer with at least 10 wins this season.
- Benedict fell to 0-5 in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Bucs are competing for their 14th region championship.
