Men's Tennis to Host NCAA South Regional Monday-Tuesday

Bucs open with Benedict in four-team tournament

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's men's tennis team will host the NCAA Division II South Regional at Buccaneer Tennis Center Monday and Tuesday.

The top-seeded Buccaneers (20-2) will play eighth-seeded Benedict (15-8) in the first round at 10 a.m. Monday. Fourth-seeded Valdosta State (18-3) will play fifth-seeded West Florida (23-3) in the other regional semifinal.

"It's a great opportunity we have to host the regional," Bucs longtime coach George Samuel said. "The NCAA Tournament is a reward for our hard work, and we can't wait to get started on our home courts."

The Buccaneers are making their 24th NCAA Tournament appearance. Last year, the Bucs lost to West Florida in the national championship match. The Argonauts lost, 5-2, to Valdosta State in the Gulf South Tournament on Saturday. Barry beat Valdosta State, 5-3, this season.

The Bucs have won 13 region championships. Barry beat Valdosta State, 5-1, last year to capture the region crown.

"We have some history on our side, but we still have work to do," Samuel said. "Our guys are really motivated to go out and defend our region championship."
