Men's Tennis Wins Regular Season Finale

No. 2 Buccaneers breeze by No. 2 Seahawks, 8-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's No. 2-ranked men's tennis team beat No. 2 Keiser, 8-1, Wednesday in the final regular season match at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Buccaneers are the second-ranked team in Division II. Keiser holds the same distinction in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

DOUBLES:

SINGLES:

  • Fourty seventh-ranked Ventura put the Bucs on the board first in singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Turosienski at the No. 5 position.
  • Flavio Matteoli clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Koeng at No. 6.
  • Gomez, ranked 12th in the country, extended the lead to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Guerschanik at No. 2.
  • Montrieul, who owns the No. 11 ranking, won by the same score over 10th-ranked Lagos.
  • Larregina gutted out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Adrian Frutos at No. 3 for the Bucs' final point.
  • Bonnaud picked up the Seahawks' lone point with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Versier at No. 4.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry went 10-0 at home in the regular season. 
  • Tous and Larregina were paired together for the first time this season.
  • Montrieul and Ventura were partnered together for the first time this year.
  • Gomez and Versier won their team-leading 10th doubles match together.
  • Versier lost a singles match for the first time since March 3, ending a streak of 11 straight victories.
  • Ventura picked up his first doubles win since March 18. 
  • Ventura is 3-0 in pairs play with three different partners.
  • Larregina is 4-0 in doubles with four different partners.
  • The Bucs finished second in the Sunshine State Conference after Saint Leo won Wednesday.


ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will play in the SSC Tournament quarterfinals a week from Thursday in Bradenton, Florida.
