Softball Drops Doubleheader To Mocs

Bucs set to host Tampa Thursday and Friday

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry's softball team lost both games in the doubleheader against Florida Southern, dropping the series to the Mocs on Chris Bellotto Field Saturday afternoon.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T3: Bucs scored first in game one, thanks to a triple that scored two runs by Anieliese Palmeiro. The Bucs got two more runs later in the inning after a single down the left field line by Brittany Phillips. Barry 4 | Southern 0
  • B3: The startled Mocs bit back at the Bucs with four runs of their own, knotting the game at 4-4. Barry 4 | Southern 4
  • T6: Barry regained the lead in the sixth with another four runs. Alayna Gallagher had a three-RBI triple to left center. She later scored from third thanks to a perfectly placed bunt by Palmeiro to third base. Barry 8 | Southern 4
  • B6: For the second time in the game, the Mocs scored in the same inning the Bucs had, but this time bringing in seven runs to take the three-run lead. The Mocs would hold the lead into the seventh to take the win in game two of the series. Southern 11 | Barry 8

Game 2

  • B1: Jessica Trana put the Mocs on the board first with an RBI-single to right center to score Desirae Klumpp. Southern 1 | Barry 0
  • T2: Jordan Cooke took the lead for the Bucs with a two-run shot to right center. Barry 2 | Southern 1
  • B2: Lindsey Wilson tied the game up with an RBI-double to left field, scoring Alli Carroll. Barry 2 | Southern 2
  • B3: The Mocs broke the 2-2 tie with five more runs in the third. FSC had three RBI-doubles. Southern 7 | Barry 2
  • T4: Lynsey Duncan scored on a fielding error by the Mocs, cutting their lead to four runs. Southern 7 | Barry 3
  • T7: The Bucs had one last try at a comeback, scoring three more runs in the seventh, just one run short of the Mocs. The Mocs would take game three, and complete the sweep, in which the Bucs did to them last Spring. Southern 7 | Barry 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Kristen Beacham (7-1) won game one for the Mocs, giving up three hits and two runs through two innings.
  • Christie Falcon (9-7) lost game two for Barry, giving up seven hits and seven runs in one inning of work.
  • Lynsey Duncan (1-2) lost game three for Barry, allowing the Mocs eight hits and seven runs through three innings.
  • Aubrey Ehlers (5-3) worked seven innings for the Mocs and gave up eight hits and six runs to pick up the win in game three.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host Tampa on March 29 and 30 in a conference three-game series on Buccaneer Softball Field.
