Baseball Rallies for 9-7 Win Over Skyhawks

Almonte with a strong appearance in relief

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's baseball team rallied past the Skyhawks of Stonehill College 9-7 on Saturday at Feinbloom Field.

  • T1: The Skyhawks took advantage of a pair of Buccaneer errors to score twice in the first. | Stonehill 2, Barry 0
  • B1: Jonathan Quintana lined a hard shot off the scoreboard in left for his fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot to tie the game. | Barry 2, Stonehill 2
  • T3: The Skyhawks loaded the bases with two outs. Sean O'Halloran beat out an infield single to score one run and jeremiah Vargas launched a double into right center to clear the bases. | Stonehill 6, Barry 2
  • B3: Quintana had an RBI single, scoring Justin Lamazares, who had walked. | Stonehill 6, Barry 3

  • B8: Paul Salata led off with a single and Michael Escarra came in to run. Quintana lifted a wind-blown double to left and Escarra scored when O'Halloran kicked the ball. After a single by Baldwin put runners on the corners, Garrett Thompson drew a walk to load the bases. Stonehill got a strikeout, but Arrison Perez came up with a big single down the left field line to drive in two runs. | Barry 9, Stonehill 7

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Angel Almonte (1-0) worked four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. He allowed just two hits and struck out three.
  • Daniel Broeseker gave up a lead off single to Tyler Carey, but came back to get a fly out and two strikeouts to earn his fourth save.
  • Michael White (1-1) frittered away a three-run lead, giving up four runs (three earned) in just over an inning worth of work. 
  • Quintana went 4-for-4 with a homer, double, three runs and three RBI. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Molloy College Lions on Feinbloom Field on Sunday. Game time has been moved up to 1:00 pm.
