ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Barry University's women's tennis team won the Sunshine State Conference opener on the road Friday afternoon, beating Eckerd, 9-0.
The Buccaneers dropped just four games in a dominating performance at Fred Bullard Courts.

SUMMARY:
- The Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead when 14th-ranked Verena Schmid and Sonja Larsen beat Maryann Aaron and Bailey Koronich, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles.
- Carolin Schmidt and Zuza Maciejewska defeated Laurence Bourgault and Isabella Wong, 8-1, at No. 3 pairs to make it 2-0.
- Julie Razafindranaly and Hannah Seizer completed the doubles sweep with an 8-0 shutout of Joyce Fields and Taylor Selby at the top spot.
- Maciejewska defeated Aaron, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles to extend Barry's lead to 4-0. Larsen, the No. 1-ranked singles player in the country, clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Fields at the No. 2 position.
- Schmidt beat Bourgault, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles just before Judith Bohnenkamp put the finishing touches on a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cassidy Lear at No. 6. That gave the Bucs a 7-0 lead.
- Razafindranaly defeated Koronich, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Seizer was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Selby at the top position to wrap it up.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Larsen and Maciejewska were making their singles debuts this year.
- Schmidt has not dropped a game in her first two college singles matches.
- Seizer and Razafindranaly are 2-0 at No. 1 doubles this season.
