Softball Closes GCI With Losses To Lee and West Georgia

Bucs fall to 1-5

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Barry softball team lost twice on the final day of the Gulf Coast Invitational at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex on Sunday. They fell 8-0 in five innings to Lee (Tenn.) and 8-3 to West Georgia.

Game 1 - Lee 8, Barry 0

  • B2: The Flames scored four unearned runs in the second inning. After a one-out double and an error on a bunt, the Bucs got a fielder's choice to leave runners on the corners and two outs. But the Flames rapped out four straight hits, including a two-run single by Brooklyn Frazier. | Lee 4, Barry 0
  • B4: Another error helped the Flames score twice in the fourth, though Frazier and Bailey Church both had doubles. | Lee 6, Barry 0
  • B5: The Flames walked off in the fifth on a two-run triple by Kayla Louie. | Lee 8, Barry 0

  • T1: Ashley Ellison was hit by a pitch by Sofie Dominguez to lead off the game and scored on single by Raven Smith. | West Georgia 1, Barry 0
  • B2: Barry scored three in the second. Madison VonHagel walked and Anieliese Palmeiro beat out a bunt for a hit. Then with two outs, Brittany Phillips drove a double into the right center field gap to score both of the them. Phillips later stole third and scored with the throw from catcher Mallory Walker sailed into left field. | Barry 3, West Georgia 1 
  • T3: The Wolves chipped a run off in the third. They loaded the bases with one out. The Bucs cut one run down at the plate, but Sydney Smith laced a single to left to cut the lead to one. | Barry 3, West Georgia 2
  • T4: West Georgia tied it in the fourth when Alley Taylor scored on a errant throw from right field. | Barry 3, West Georgia 3
  • T6: West Georgia took the lead in the fourth. Lexie Stohr, Lexi Close and Beatriz Cardoza ripped back-to-back-to-back doubles. | West Georgia 7, Barry 3
  • T7: The Wolves tacked on an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Sierra Stella. | West Georgia 8, Barry 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Christie Falcon (0-2) was tagged with the loss in both games. In 6.2 innings, she allowed 12 runs (five earned) on 13 hits and three walks.
  • Palmeiro had three hits and Lynsey Duncan had two. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel back home to Miami Shores to host West Florida in a double header on Buccaneer Field on Saturday Feb. 10.
