Softball Drops Doubleheader To Knights

Bucs nearly missed taking the series with a late rally from Lynn

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's softball team lost the conference series to the Lynn Fighting Knights Saturday afternoon, losing 6-7 in both matches of the doubleheader.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T2: Erin Sundook got the Knights on the board early with a single to left field, scoring two RBI. Lynn 2 | Barry 0
  • B2: Bucs cut the Knight's lead to one when Kristina Osorio hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Madison VonHagel to tag up and score from third. Lynn 2 | Barry 1
  • B3: Barry's Anieliese Palmeiro singled through the left side, scoring Lynsey Duncan to tie the game. Barry 2 | Lynn 2
  • T4: An error by the Barry defense allowed for Sundook to score and take back the lead for Lynn. Lynn 3 | Barry 2
  • T5: Another error by Barry's infield allowed Lynn to increase their lead to two. Lynn 4 | Barry 2
  • B5: VonHagel came up big in the fifth with a two-RBI single to right center.  Barry 4 | Lynn 4
  • T6: Lynn's Victoria Rios and Elizabeth Diaz each had singles in the sixth to combine for three RBI. Lynn 7 | Barry 4
  • B6: Bucs had one last effort in the sixth, but came up short just scoring one run short of the Knights. Sam Busekrus had an RBI single. Lynn 7 | Barry 6

Game 2

  • B1: VonHagel knocked in the first run in game two, giving the Bucs the one-run lead. Barry 1 | Lynn 0
  • T3: Errors on Barry's defense hurt them in game two in the third inning, allowing Lynn's Olexa to score and tie the game. Barry 1 | Lynn 1
  • B3: Barry got the bats rolling in the third inning, with the help of several infield errors on Lynn's behalf to take a five-run lead. Osorio, Catie Falcon and Brittany Phillips each had RBI singles. Barry 6 | Lynn 1 
  • T5: Shayle Arenson knocked in Olexa cut the Buc's lead to four runs. Barry 6 | Lynn 2
  • T6: Olexa doubled in the sixth for the Knights scoring Sheffield, increasing their odds of a comeback. Barry 6 | Lynn 3
  • T7: The Knights rallied in the seventh and knocked in four runs to take the series win. Lynn 7 | Barry 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Geneva Santos (0-6) took both losses on the day for the Bucs, allowing four runs in the first game and three in the second.
  • Olivia Saviskas (1-0) picked up the win in game one for the Knights, while Allyson Jameston (1) grabbed the save. 
  • Jameston (4-1) came back in the second game to grab the series win for the Knights, giving up zero hits or runs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers head to the Columbus State University Classic in Columbus, GA, to play their first game on March 2 at 5 p.m.
