WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Barry University's softball team dropped the opening game of the conference series Friday night against Palm Beach Atlantic, losing 6-5.
This was the first matchup between the two teams as conference competitors since PBA joining the Sunshine State Conference last Spring.

- T2: Kristina Osorio got the Bucs rolling in the second with a triple. Osorio drove in Geneva Santos for the first run, and ended up scoring herself on a throwing error by the Sailfish defense. Barry 2 | PBA 0
- B2: PBA got one run on the board in the second, after Maddie Bertisch grounded out to second, bringing in Brianna Rano from third to cut Barry's lead to one. Barry 2 | PBA 1
- T3: Barry regained the two-run lead in the third with a double down the left field line from Anieliese Palmeiro, scoring Sam Busekrus. Barry 3 | PBA 1
- B3: Maddie Biggs came up big for the Sailfish in the bottom of the third with a double to left field, scoring two RBI to tie up the game. Barry 3 | PBA 3
- B5: PBA's Edmilly Molina singled up the middle to score Michaela Hynes to take the lead for the first time in the game. PBA 4 | Barry 3
- T6: The Bucs took the lead back in the sixth with another two runs. Santos and Peyton Rawls each had RBI singles to the outfield. Barry 5 | PBA 4
- B6: The Sailfish however took advantage of a Barry defensive error to tie the game, and then scored the game-winning run after a sacrifice fly to right field to score the runner from third. PBA 6 | Barry 5
NOTEWORTHY:
- Jana Wagner (2-0) picked up the win in the first conference game of the season for the Sailfish, allowing just three hits and one run.
- Geneva Santos (0-4) was dealt the loss for the Bucs, giving up nine hits and six runs.

The Buccaneers return to Simpson Field to continue the three-game series against the Sailfish tomorrow at 1 and 3 p.m.
