LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The Buccaneers dropped a tough match up on the road to the Bellarmine Knights, the No. 1-ranked team in the country, 90-67, on Tuesday night in Louisville, Kentucky. Junior Tylan Birts led the Bucs in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Barry had three players reach double-figures against the Knights.

SUMMARY:

  • Barry came out playing tough defense and forcing the Knights to work on every offensive possession through the first 10 minutes of the first half. Then, the Buccaneers went almost eight minutes without a field goal and found themselves down 20 points with five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • The Bucs were much better offensively in the second half shooting 54.8 percent after going 8-for-29 (27.6 percent) in the first, but the effort came too late in the ball game.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry leads the Sunshine State Conference in opponent field goal percentage, holding opponents to 38 percent shooting. Bellarmine shot a season-high 55.8 percent for any opponent against Barry this season.
  • Junior Johannes Dolven posted a season-high 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting against the Knights.
  • Bellarmine out-shot the Bucs 28-to-11 at the charity stripe, with the Knights converting on 24-of-28 attempts (85.7 percent).
  • Marcelo Perez tied a season-high with eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting night.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs continue play in the Bellarmine Classic tomorrow afternoon against the University of Southern Indiana in Louisville, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles are 5-2 and tip-off is set for 1:30 pm.
