MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Buccaneers play in the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Classic this weekend, facing off with Alabama-Huntsville on Friday and #8/12 Virginia Union on Saturday, both games at noon in Rick Case Arena.

Women's Basketball - Friday, Nov. 23, 12:00 noon, Rick Case Arena

The Bucs (1-2) are coming off a tough 89-82 loss to Benedict on Nov. 16. The Bucs scored 82 points, a total they topped only twice last year, but allowed 89 on 15-of-28 shooting from three-point range by the Tigers. The Bucs had not allowed that many points since playing Florida Southern in 2017.

Newcomer Nichel Tampa has made an immediate impact for the Bucs, leading the team at 16.3 points per game.  She is shooting 45.0 percent from the field and has chipped in 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game from her point guard slot. Ida Andersson is second on the team at 16.0 points per game, and leads the team at 7.0 rebounds per game. Juhnae Richardson is coming off the bench for 10.0 points per game, thanks to some 37.5 percent three-point shooting.

The Chargers (1-1) fell to Trevecca Nazarene in their opener, but bounced back to beat Kentucky State. Sophomore guard Aryn Sanders leads the team and the Gulf South Conference at 21.5 points per game. The 5-6 guard also pulls down 9.0 rebounds per contest. Sophomore forward Katie Speegle leads the team at 11.0 rebounds per game and chips in 10.5 points.

Women's Basketball - Saturday, Nov. 24, 12:00 noon, Rick Case Arena

Off to a 3-0 start to the season, the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union are currently ranked 12th in the WBCA national poll and eighth in the NCBWA poll after picking up wins over Cheyney, previously 11th-ranked Edinboro and Belmont Abbey. Three Panthers are average double-figures in scoring, with sophomore guard Shareka McNeill on top at 21.7 points per game. Following behind her seniors Jasmine Carter and Nicole Floyd, contribue 14.0 and 11.7 ppg, respectively. Carter leads the team with 12.0 rebounds per game. Senior point guard Rejoice Spivey dishes out a whopping 9.3 assists per game. As a team, VUU is averaging 84.67 points compared to their opponents' 49.67.
