Women's Basketball Takes Exhibition Win Over the River

Bucs dominate second half

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- THe Barry Buccaneers pulled away late to dominate the Indian River Pioneers 78-57 in women's basketball exhibition action at Cesar Odio Court on Wednesday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Pioneers grabbed a 16-14 lead after the first period, after committing just one turnover in the period. The Bucs suffered some shooting woes, hitting just 2-for-8 from three-point range and 2-for-7 from the line. | IRSC 16, Barry 14
  • 2Q - The Bucs started to pull things together in the second period, out-scoring the Pioneers 22-10. Ida Andersson led the way with eight points in the frame. The Bucs also forced nine turnovers. | Barry 36, IRSC 26
  • 3Q - The Bucs came out of the half and inexorably pulled away from the Pioneers. Up 14 at 46-32, the Bucs used a 12-4 run over the next two minutes to build a 20-point lead and never looked back.   • 4Q - The Pioneers trimmed the lead to 16 points at the 5:41 mark on a free throw by Angelica Flores, but the Bucs quickly pushed it back over 20 on a three-pointer by Seyranian at 3:49. | Barry 78, IRSC 57  

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Seyranian led a balanced Buccaneer attack with 12 points, including 11 in the second half as the Bucs pulled away.
  • Andersson and newcomer Nichel Tampa added 11 points, while Richardson added 10. 
  • Every Buccaneer who played scored in the contest.
  • Flores led IRSC with 14 points. Kiara Cadore chipped in 12.
  • The Bucs excelled on the defensive end, swatting 11 blocks, grabbing 13 steals en route to forcing 19 turnovers and held the Pioneers to 29.4 percent shooting.
  • The Bucs also dominated the glass, holding a 54-44 edge on the boards. Emma Hergot had 11 rebounds to pace the Bucs.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs hos the SSC/GSC crossover on Nov. 9-10. They face Union (Tenn.) on Friday at 5:30 pm and Delta State at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
