CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- After playing a very competitive first half, the Barry University's men's basketball team fell to the Miami Hurricanes 91-61 in an exhibition match at the Watsco Center on Tuesday night.

Evan Walshe led the Buccaneers in scoring with 14 points on 6/9 shooting. The eye-catching statistic tonight was on the charity stripe. Miami shot 20-more free throws than Barry did. The Buccaneers didn't attempt their shot from the line until the second half.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

"I think the free throw shooting and the rebounding were the two [determining factors]," said Bucs head coach Butch Estes. "Also, I know they don't have much depth because they had to play their starters all the way until the very end, at least you know, thankful none of them got hurt."

Estes and his staff are still trying to figure out what rotations will work best with a roster that includes five newcomers. Estes isn't caught up with the final score, but he understand the importance of evaluating the film and improving before the regular season opener next month. "We need our new players to grow up really quick," Estes said. "We have three transfers, but they have to learn our system, and they're behind. They're really behind. It seems like when we played our returning players, we kind of hung in there. We need them [newcomers] to grow up fast."

SUMMARY:

Barry trailed by just eight in the first half, but was outscored 48-28 in the second.
David Moya tallied in seven points with a team-leading four assists.
Milon Sheffield played well in the just under nine minutes of play, with seven points and two steals.
The Buccaneers bench had 27 points against the Hurricanes.

ON THE HORIZON:

Barry will open the regular season at home on Nov. 10 against Clark-Atlanta at 12:00 p.m.
