Women's Soccer Plays Host To Florida Southern Mocs Tonight

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The ninth-ranked Barry Buccaneers play host to the the Florida Southern Moccasins in the final regular season game tonight at Buccaneer Field. The Bucs have already wrapped up the Sunshine State Conference women's soccer title and the number one seed in the upcoming SSC Tournament, but still have their eyes set on hosting the NCAA Regional Tournament in two weeks.

The Bucs are ranked ninth in the United Soccer Coaches poll, their seventh straight week in the top-10, heading into the game. The Bucs are coming off a 2-0 win at Saint Leo on Saturday. Melanie Zeigner had a season-high five saves in recording her league-best sixth shutout, while leading scorers Christy Grimshaw and Molly Sharpe each tallied a goal. The Mocs fell 3-2 in overtime to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. Caitlin Quaempts scored twice for the Mocs, but they conceded three goals four the fourth time this year.

The Bucs lead the SSC in goal differential at +2.07 per game, thanks in large part to their dominant defense, that features five senior starters. Keeper Zeigner is the conference leader in goals against average, allowing just 0.34. She has six solo shutouts in just 13 games, which is also tops, as is her 87.1 save percentage. The quartet of Jade Adams, Alyssa Lugo, Brittany Larosa and Yanni Asson, in addition to holding the opponents just under three shots on goal per game, have added a goal and five assists. The Bucs also lead the league in offense behind seniors Christy Grimshaw and Molly Sharpe. The dou rank tied for first in the league with 11 goals and tied for first with eight assists. Sharp is first in the conference with six game-winners, while Grimshaw, the defending SSC Player of the Year, has four.

Florida Southern had a negative goal differential of -0.20, scoring 20 goals, but allowing 23. Anna Griessler lead the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. Alexa Moberley has three goals as well and two assists. A pair of freshman, Noelle Rolfsen and Touri Routt, have split time in goal. They have combined for a 1.51 goals against average and 72.6 save percentage, though they have amassed four shutouts on the season.

SENIOR DAY

Jade Adams is a four-year letterwinner, who was a first-team All-SSC pick last year.. Despite missing half of her freshman year, she has led the Bucs to a 40-7-5 mark in 54 career games. She averages over 89.7 minutes per game as the Bucs have posted a 0.69 goals against average and 29 shutouts in her 54 games. She has been on the Athletic Director's Honor List, Dean's List and Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and will earn her degree in nursing.

Yanni Asson is a two-year letterwinner after transferring from Georgia Military College. She has played and started in 28 games on the defense which has led the SSC in scoring defense over the last two seasons. A First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference pick last season, she added three assists to her defensive work. Averaging 84.7 minutes per game, she has helped lead the Bucs to a 0.56 goals against average and 16 shutouts in 28 games.

Alissa Bello is another four-year letterwinner. She has played in 14 games, averaging 18.3 minutes per contest, off the bench. She scored her first career goal in a 5-0 win over Embry-Riddle on Sept. 29. A member of the both the Dean's list and the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, she will earn her degree in exercise physiology.

Christy Grimshaw is the rare five-year letterwinner, having received a red-shirt after playing in two games in 2016. Playing in 63 games, she has tallied 25 goals and 15 assists. She has also scored 10 game-winners and was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and second-team All-American last season, winning the award for the program for the eighth time. Already a graduate with a BS degree in management and marketing, she is currently pursuing her MBA.

Brittany Larosa is yet another four-year letterwinner. After playing off the bench for two seasons in the midfield, she transitioned to the defense, where she has become a mainstay, starting all 28 games as the Bucs have gone 22-3-3 with 16 shutouts. She has also contributed five assists, on her overlapping runs. A member of the Athletic Director's List, Dean's List and SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, she is completing work on a degree in exercise physiology.

Alyssa Lugo is a two-year letterwinner from Fresno City College, where she was a two-time junior college All-American. After an injury-plagued junior season, she has stepped up as a starter in the defensive third, starting 12 games this season as the Bucs have been the best defensive side in the SSC, leading the league in fewest goals allowed, fewest shots allowed and most shutouts. A member of the Athletics Director's Honor List, she will be graduating with a degree in management.

Antonella Monrreal is a two-year letterwinner, who has had an interesting career trajectory. Starting at Barry in 2014, she won a scholarship from Futbol Mundial for Best of the Best as a freshman. She then transferred to Lander University in South Carolina for two years, before returning to Barry for her senior season. A three-time member of Barry's Dean's List and a member of the 2014 SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, she will be graduating with a degree in exercise physiology.

Another four-year letterwinner, Molly Sharpe has been one of the offensive stalwarts for the Bucs with 20 goals and 15 assists in 59 career games. She's made the most of her 20 goals with 10 game-winners, tied for seventh in program history. A second-team All-SSC pick last year, she leads the league in game-winning goals this year. Another outstanding student, she has earned spots on the President's List, Dean's List and SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll during her career. She'll receive her degree in exercise physiology.

Melanie Ziegner is a two-year letterwinner, transferring in from Bridgeport. She has been outstanding in goal for the Bucs, posting a 0.57 goals against average, an 81.7 save percentage and a 20-3-3 record with 12 shutouts. A second-team All-SSC pick last year, she leads the conference with a 0.34 goals against average and six shutouts this season. A member of the President's List, Dean's List and the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, she is majoring in business.
