Bucs Strike The Mocs 3-1; Sweep Season Series

MIAMI SHORES, FL. – The Barry Buccaneers (19-2, 11-2 SSC) went into the Jenkins Field House and came away with a victory over the Florida Southern Mocs (13-8, 8-5 SSC) 3-1 on Friday night.

It was the first loss for the Mocs at home since Sept. 2, 2017 and the first loss at home to an SSC foe since Oct. 28, 2016. Barry took the sets 25-19, 25-15, 18-25, 27-25

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"This was a great win for the program," Bucs head coach Steve Hendricks said. "In game three, we got a little rattled but we're able to refocus in game four. It was a fun battle in the fourth and a nice come from behind win. This team continues to show their fight and character in big matches," Hendricks said.

SUMMARY:

  • 1st set | W 25-19 | Megi Buvinic set the tone for the Bucs with eight of her 21 kills taking place int he first frame.
  • 2nd set | W 25-15 | The Mocs struggled to recover in the second set, committing seven errors on the offensive end.
  • 3rd set | L 18-25 | After a dominant first two sets, the Bucs struggled offensively in the third frame, committing 12 attacking errors.
  • 4th set | W 25-18 | The "Great Wall of Russia" set the tone in the middle of set with Kristina Filimonova and Anastasiia Samokhvalova teaming up with back-to-back blocks, giving the Bucs their 15th and 16th points of the set.

NOTEWORTHY:.

  • Filimonova recorded her team-leading seventh double-double of the season tonight, also adding six blocks on the defensive end. 
  • Buvinic​​​​​​ led the Buccaneers with a season-high 21 kills.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers stay on the road tomorrow and head on over to Saint Leo University. The match is set for 4:00 pm. It will be the last match for Barry before the South Region Crossover on the weekend of October 19th.
