ROME, Ga. -- Pierre Montrieul defeated Arthur Figuriere of Bluefield State College 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinal of the ITA Oracle Cup at the Rome Tennis Center on Friday.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Montrieul defeated Figuriere 6-2, 6-0
SUMMARY:
- Montreiul dominated on day two by an even wider margin than day one, finishing his opponent in four less games.
- In the final he will face first-seeded Kiranpal Pannu of Columbus State. Pannu won his first game in extra sets against Indianapolis' Renato Lima 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and won hsi second game against Northwest Missouri State's Franco Oliva in two straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Montrieul is looking to become the fourth Buccaneer to win the ITA Fall Singles Championship, joining Herbert Bende (1995), Christian Witt (2000) and Emanuel Fraitzl (2010).
- Montrieul and Pannu met twice last season, splitting the two matches after Montrieul won the regular season matchup 6-3,6-3 before Pannu captured a victory in the national championship match in three sets 6-7(2), 6-2, 6-1.
ON THE HORIZON:
He returns to the court on Saturday to face Pannu.
