Women's Basketball Visits Tars On Saturday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Buccaneers visit Warden Arena to face the Rollins Tars on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

The Bucs (13-5, 6-4 SSC), who have been spectacular at home, look to take the mojo on the road on Saturday when they visit the Rollins Tars. The Bucs are 11-1 at home, but just 1-4 on the road this season. The Bucs beat Lynn on Wednesday night 66-56.  

Kiara Palmer leads the Bucs in scoring (15.3), rebounding (9.8), blocked shots (57) and shooting (56.7%) again this season. She is sixth in the conference in scoring, second in rebounding and blocks and third in shooting. Barbara Cousiño is chipping in 14.4 points (eighth in the SSC), 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Her 86.0 free throw percentage tops the league. Ida Andersson has made quite the impression in her first season, averaging 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Harriet Swindells has been very effective from long range, shooting 37.9 percent from downtown, good for fifth in the conference. She averages 8.3 points per game 

The Tars are 10-6, 5-5 in the league and game behind the Buccaneers. The Tars lost 80-60 to the Florida Southern Mocs on Wednesday.

Julia Ingler leads the Tars at 12.9 points per game. Denise Daniels chips in 11.1. Carly McClendon, who leads the SSC in blocked shots at 3.3 per game, averaged 9.4 rebounds per game.

GAME NOTES:

  • Barry defeated the Tars 78-60 to open conference play back in December. Palmer had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Cousiño led the way with 21 points and five assists. McClendon, with 12 points, and Vernisha Andrews, with 11, paced the Tars.
  •  The Tars lead the all-time series 47-21, including 25-5 in Winter Park. But Barry has won four of the last six, including two of the last three in Central Florida.
  • Despite leading the conference in made three-pointers at 9.0 per game, the Bucs average 26.0 points per game in the paint
  • Barry averages 20.0 points per game off the bench
  • Though McClendon is the individual leader over Palmer, the Bucs lead the Tars in blocked shots 4.67 to 4.44 as the top two teams in the league
