MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University's volleyball team is set to host its first home matches of the season Friday and Saturday.
The Buccaneers (3-1, 1-1 Sunshine State Conference) will host No. 20 Saint Leo (7-1, 2-1) at 7 p.m. Friday in the Health & Sports Center. Barry will meet Eckerd (4-3, 0-3) at 4 p.m. Saturday. Both matches can be seen on the
Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
Due to postponements and cancellations, Barry has not had a home match this season. But the Bucs will step on the court this weekend in the midst of conference play. The Bucs have played three of their four matches in Daytona Beach thus far.Â
Saint Leo is coming off a sweep at Tampa Tuesday night. The Lions are third in the SSC in hitting (.221) and opponent hitting percentage (.141). Setter Anna Garrett is averaging 10.38 assists per set, which also ranks third in the league.
Eckerd is coming off a three-set loss at Florida Southern Tuesday. The Tritons are hitting .172 as a team, while opponents are hitting .145 against them. Paula Hoffmann is averaging 4.32 kills per set, which ranks second in the SSC.
The Buccaneers are hitting .207, while opponents are hitting .139. Barry's
Kristina Filimonova is hitting .333, which is tied for fourth in the conference.
NET NOTES
Barry is 45-14 all time against Saint Leo ... The Bucs split with the Lions last season, each defending their home court ... The Bucs beat Saint Leo in Miami Shores in 2010 when the Lions were ranked No. 22 in the nation.
