VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Men's tennis'
Carlos Gomez qualified for the quarterfinal round of the ITA Fall Regional Saturday. He remains undefeated in singles thus far.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
"I'm very happy to spend the whole day competing with three very good opponents," assistant coach Fred Bonal said. "Carlos (Gomez) played with great intensity and will compete in the quarterfinal, and I hope he plays with the same intensity I saw today."
SUMMARY:
ITA Regional
- Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier started day two the same as day one with a doubles victory, but this time against Kay Barttman and Tristen Houle of Lynn, 8-2.
- The duo, however, dropped their second doubles match on the day, losing to Rodolfo Arreygue and Andres Donayre from Embry-Riddle, 8-6.
- Flavio Matteoli and Fernando Tous won their first match, 8-6, against Serdar Bojadjief and Nick Springer of West Florida.
- Matteoli and Tous lost, 8-4, in their second match against Lynn's Florian Cleamare and Jose Portfino.
- Gomez continued his unbeaten streak, defeating both Lucio Menesez of Mississippi College, 6-2, 6-2, and Lucas Sanchez from West Florida, 6-1, 6-0.
- Vivien Versier was defeated by Yin Kim from the host Valdosta, 3-6, 7-6Â (7-5), 10-5.
FGCUÂ Invite
- Sahil Deshmukh of North Florida defeated Barry's Daniel Ventura, 6-4, 6-2.
- Ventura bounced back in his second match, defeating Thomas Guy of Florida Atlantic, 6-4, 7-5.
- Martin Gutierrez mirrored Ventura, losing his first match before coming back to win his second. Gutierrez defeated Alexander Gitin of FAU, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, but lost to Alberto De Meo of North Florida, 7-5, 6-4.
- Ignacio Jimenez from FAU defeated Victor Ravier, 6-4, 6-4.
- Montrieul shined in singles, winning both of his matches. He beat Till Von Winning from North Florida, 3-6, 6-2, 10-7, and Arthur Stefani from FAU, 6-4, 6-4.
- Montrieul and Ventura lost control in doubles, dropping both doubles matches on the day.
- Barry's duo of Victor Ravier and Martin Gutierrez split their doubles, losing their first match, 7-5, before rallying back to win their second, 6-3.
NOTEWORTHY:
- The Bucs concluded play at the FGCU Invite.
ON THE HORIZON:
Gomez continues on to the quarterfinals Sunday in Valdosta at day three of the ITA Regional.
