VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Barry University's men's tennis team completed day one of the ITA South Regional hosted by Valdosta Friday. Five Bucs also competed in the FGCU Invite in Fort Myers.

SUMMARY:
ITA Regional

• Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier started Barry's day off with a doubles victory against Thomas Salmon and Patricio Zarazua of PBA, 8-4.
• Fernando Tous and Flavio Matteoli won Barry's second doubles match of the day against Mississippi College's Lucio Menezes and Max Nilges.
• Matteoli lost two singles matches on the day, 6-4, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-3.
• Gomez stays unbeaten, defeating Matt Masuyama of Florida Southern in singles, 6-1, 6-1.
• Joining Gomez on the unbeaten day was Versier and Tous, who also won their singles matches.
• Versier beat Aria Canadell from Florida Tech, 6-4, 6-7, 10-5.
• Tous rallied past Marco Rocca of Mississippi State 3-6, 7-5, 10-5.

FGCU Invite

• Pierre Montrieul and Daniel Ventura continued Barry's doubles unbeaten streak on the day, defeating Autsin Bates and Oliver Landert from host FGCU ,7-6 (7-2).
• Barry;s second duo of Victor Ravier and Martin Gutierrez lost to Felipe Ramirez and Javier Fernandez, 6-4.
• Montrieul stayed unbeaten, defeating Felipe Escobar from FGCU, 6-1, 7-5.
• FGCU's Felipe Ramirez defeated Bucs' Ventura 6-1, 6-4 in singles.
• Barry's Ravier lost in singles to Ezequiel Cerrini of FGCU 6-2, 6-2.
• Gutierrez of Barry also fell short in singles to Oliver Landert from FGCU, 6-3, 6-0.

 

NOTEWORTHY:

• Four Bucs go into Saturday competition unbeaten.
