ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis seniors
Nico Dreer and
Ahmed Triki were honored with national awards by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Monday at the site of the NCAA Division II Championships.
Dreer, a native of Albstadt, Germany, was named the Most Improved Senior Player of the Year. Triki, who hails from Tunis, Tunisia, received the Senior Player of the Year honor.
Dreer enters the national championships with a 19-0 record in singles, including a 14-0 mark at the No. 4 position. He is 13-4 in doubles. Prior to this season, Dreer had a career doubles record of 13-9. He went 12-5 in singles as a junior, and was 44-10 in his career entering this season. His 63 career singles victories are tied for fourth in Barry history. Dreer is ranked 47th in the country in singles.
Triki is 12-3 at No. 1 singles and 19-3 at No. 1 doubles. He is ranked No. 3 in the country in singles and No. 2 in doubles with
Pierre Montrieul. Triki needs one more doubles victory to tie the school career record of 82 wins. His .902 singles winning percentage ranks second in school history.
Dreer and Triki also were named the South Region recipients of their respective awards.
