Softball Hammers Eagles In Doubleheader Split

Hunter Mars goes 5-for-6 with 3 RBI

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The Barry Buccaneers hammered out 16 hits and scored 15 runs to take game one and the series on Friday from the Embry-Riddle Eagles at the ERAU Softball Stadium. The Eagles salvaged the finale 5-2.

SUMMARY:
GAME ONE:

  • T-1st - Barry jumped out quick with five runs in the first inning. After loading the bases with one out, Madison VonHagel had an RBI single, Kristina Osorio knocked in one with a sacrifice fly, and Hunter Mars knocked in a pair with a double. Another runs scored on a passed ball.
  • B-1st - The Eagles got one run back in the bottom of the inning, as Kendall Funk had an RBI double.
  • B-2nd - Embry-Riddle trimmed the lead to one in the second. With two outs, the Eagles drew a pair of walks. Anna Battison reached on a error, allowing one run to score and Maggie Scott knocked in a pair with a single.
  • T-3rd - Mars came through again, driving in two runs with a single.
  • T-4th - VonHagel had an RBI double to score Lynsey Duncan.
  • T-5th - The Bucs exploded for seven runs on six hits and a pair of Eagle errors. Duncan and Cotterill had RBI doubles and Geneva Santos drove in two with a double of her own. The Bucs also swiped home twice.

SUMMARY:
GAME TWO:

  • B-1st - Battison scored on a passed ball.
  • B-3rd - Battison keyed a three-run inning with a two-run double.
  • B-6th - Kim George scored on a error.
  • T-7th - Alayna Gallagher drove in pinch runner Anieliese Palmeiro with an infield single and later scored on an error.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Santos (4-4) got the decision in both ends of the twin bill. In game one, she worked 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Palmeiro. In game two, She allowed five runs (three earned) on three hits and five walks in a six-inning complete game.
  • Dana Rowley (0-1) took the loss in game one for the Eagles, getting hammered for 15 runs (five earned) on 16 hits and two walks in five innings.
  • Illona Andringa (14-11) went the distance in the finale to earn the win.
  • The 15 runs are the most for the Bucs this year and the most since scoring 16 against Nova Southeastern on Feb. 20, 2016.
  • Mars was 5-for-6 with a double and four RBI in the twin bill. VonHagel was 5-for-8 with a double and two RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Keiser Seahawks on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
