Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Nova

Barry bounced back in game two after taking a loss in game one.

DAVIE, Fla. – Buccaneer baseball split the doubleheader with Nova Southeastern on Saturday. The Bucs lost game one 12-8, but came back to win 12-0 in the second game.

SUMMARY:
Game 1

  • T1: Alffredi Ramos singled to center field to score two RBI, taking the early 2-0 lead for the Bucs.
  • B2: Kevin Suarez hit a two-run homer to right field in the second to even the game at 2-2.
  • T3: Barry regained the lead with singles from Claudio Rubiera and Ryan Baldwin, combining for two RBI to make it 4-2.
  • B3: Sebastian Diaz scored in the third off of a hit by Dylan Woods to trim the Buc's lead to one run.
  • T4: Meanwhile, Julian Abreu homered in the fourth to extend the Buc's lead back to two runs.
  • T5: Andrew Rapoza singled to right field, advancing Ramos to third who was able to advance home on an error. Jonathan Quintana singled up the middle to score Rapoza to make it 7-3.
  • B5: Jeremy Vasquez homered to right center in the fifth, scoring three RBI, making it 7-6 Bucs.
  • B6: Diaz doubled in the sixth to score two RBI, taking the 8-7 lead over the Bucs.
  • B7: Nova knocked in four more runs in the seventh to increase their lead to five runs.
  • T8: Alffredi Ramos gave the Bucs one more run in the eighth, as he singled to right field to score Baldwin.

Game 2

  • T3: Rubiera hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Abreu to start the game with the 1-0 lead. Ramos added to the lead with a two-RBI single to left center to give the Bucs a three-run advantage over the Sharks.
  • T4: Barry got the bats rolling, knocking in seven runs in the fourth to make it a 10-0 game. Abreu, Ramos, and Juan Sebastain Dayoub each had doubles, combining for four RBI.
  • T6: Dayoub flied out to left field to score Quintana to make it 11-0 Bucs.
  • T7: Rubiera wrapped up the scoring on the night, as he doubled down the left field line to score Baldwin to make it 12-0 Bucs.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jonny Ortiz (3-0) won game one of the day for the Sharks, giving up four hits and one run.
  • Blaine Duncan (3-2) took the loss in the first game Barry, giving up one run.
  • Nate Greve (2-3) grabbed the win in game two for the Bucs, giving up three hits.
  • Joe DiBenedetto (5-3) was dealt the loss in game two for Nova, giving up six hits and six runs.

Barry travels to West Palm Beach on Tuesday to play PBA at 6:00 pm.
