MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers chopped down the Florida Southern Moccasins 3-1 in the opening game of their Sunshine State Conference softball series at Buccaneer Field on Friday night.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: Barry 3, Florida Southern 1
Records: Barry (12-15, 5-5 SSC), Florida Southern (13-11, 4-6 SSC)
All-Time Series: Florida Southern leads 65-55

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:

"It was great to see the players dig down and find a way," head coach Danielle Penner said. "(Brandy) Jones is a quality pitcher, but we were able to come up with the hits in key places to score the runs. And Christie (Falcon) did an outstanding job in the circle to earn the win."

SUMMARY:

  • B-3rd - Alayna Gallagher and Lynsey Duncan came up with big hits to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
  • T-6th - Leah Pemberton blooped a base hit to right to score Erica Morrissey to trim the lead to 2-1 for the Mocs.
  • B-6th - Jasmine Harris legged out a double to lead things off and Madison VonHagel delivered the run with a sacrifice fly to right.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Christie Falcon (3-8) earned her second straight complete game win. She allowed a run on seven hits, but did not walk a batter.
  • Brandy Jones (2-5) was tagged with the loss for the Mocs. She surrendered three runs on six hits and a walk.
  • FSC's Donna Ryan, who had a one-out base hit in the seventh, was tossed out at third after trying to stretch an extra base out of Shannon Bell's two-out infield single to end the game.

ON THE HORIZON:

The series concludes with a twin bill on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
