SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 7-ranked Buccaneers picked up their first win in a marquee weekend of NCAA Division II tennis Friday with its victory over host No. 3 Armstrong State.
Barry secured the win when No. 35-ranked Nico Dreer won his No. 4 singles match. The two teams elected to play it out after the Bucs clinched, allowing No. 2-ranked Ahmed Triki to finish his match with a victory at the top singles spot.

SUMMARY:
- Barry's No. 24-ranked Carlos Gomez and Vivien Versier pulled out a 9-8 (7-2) win over Lorenzo Camilli and Bjorn Kurtze at No. 2 doubles. That gave the Buccaneers their second pairs point. Triki and Pierre Montrieul were 8-5 winners over fifth-ranked Alberto Caceres and Jan Porteset at the top position.
- Dreer beat No. 22 Ignacio Hernandez, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2, to clinch the victory for the Bucs. His No. 4 singles victory put Barry ahead, 5-1.
- Gomez, ranked 11th in the country, coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kurtze at No. 3 singles. No. 27 Thomas Bugeaud cruised to the Bucs first singles win, beating Alvaro Cruz Chomorro, 6-0, 6-2
- Triki, the No. 2-ranked player in the country, bounced back after dropping the first set to beat 28th-ranked Luca Cerin, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, at the top singles position.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Dreer improved to 5-0 this season, picking up his first victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.
- Triki won his first match over a ranked opponent. It was his second three-set victory this year -- both coming after he dropped the first set.
- Barry coach George Samuel moved within two wins of his 500th career victory with the Buccaneers men's team.
ON THE HORIZON:
Barry will play No. 5 Valdosta State in a rematch of last year's NCAA South Region championship match the Blazers won in Miami Shores at 9 a.m. Saturday in Savannah.
