MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University women's tennis team opened the season Saturday with a 9-0 win over Bethune-Cookman. The NCAA Division II sixth-ranked Buccaneers picked up two forfeit wins over the Division I Wildcats.
Freshman Mara Cerini, a local product out of Alonzo Mourning High School in North Miami, picked up her first collegiate singles victory at the No. 6 position when Bethune-Cookman forfeited the spot. The Bucs No. 3 doubles team of Karina Goia and Isabel Rapisarda Calvo also won by forfeit.

SUMMARY:
- Paired together for the first time since being broken up at the tail end of last season, Barry's Ana Pain and Sonja Larsen swept the No. 2 doubles point.
- Dasha Salnikova and Zuza Maciejewska won at the top pairs position in their debut together.
- No. 22-ranked Larsen was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles. No. 18 Salnikova overcame a tight first set to beat Alejandra Vidal, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
- Karina Goia won by retirement at No. 3 singles.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Salnikova picked up her first dual season collegiate win.
- Goia returned to the courts after a two-year layoff due to injuries in the spring.
- Senior Isabel Rapisarda Calvo was a winner in her first college match with the Bucs.

Barry hosts St. Thomas (Fla.) Wednesday at 3 p.m. and No. 12 Flagler next Saturday at 9 a.m. during Homecoming Week.
