No. 7 Men's Basketball Gets Past Saint Leo

Buccaneers head to PBA Wednesday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry evened the score with Saint Leo, but once again it took a tightrope victory to pull it out. 

After falling to the Lions in overtime on the road in December, the seventh-ranked Buccaneers evened the regular season series by winning Saturday. It also evened the all-time series between the two teams.

SUMMARY:
 
  • Barry built a 13-point lead at halftime, but the Lions roared back to flip the switch in the second half, outscoring the Buccaneers, 56-48. After Sawyer Glick's layup with 7:35 to go put the Bucs ahead by 10, the Lions pulled within four on a three by Antoine Tobias at the 4:21 mark. Marcus Dewberry's triple cut it to three with 20 seconds to go, but Arie Williams sank two free throws with eight seconds remaining to give the Buccaneers a five-point lead. That sealed the deal.

  • It was the second straight game this week in which the Bucs won in a close call to pull the all-time series between their opponent to within one game of the opposition. Barry's win over Lynn earlier in the week gave the Bucs a one-game lead in the two South Florida rivals' history.
  • Barry shot 61.5 percent in the second half, but was still outscored by eight points. The Lions hit 60 percent of their field goals after the break.
  • Daniel Mortensen recorded three blocks in a game for the third time this year. He is tied for second in the Sunshine State Conference in blocks at 1.3 per game.
  • Sawyer Glick had seven field goals in a game for the fourth time this season. His brother Kooper Glick, who did not play in the first meeting at Saint Leo, grabbed a season-high five rebounds.
