Women's Basketball Drops Final Regular Season Home Game

Bucs to close season Saturday at Embry-Riddle

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry's women's basketball team lost its final regular season home game Wednesday to Florida Southern.

Barry's Kiara Palmer scored in double figures for the 13th straight game, but it was not enough to upset the No. 27-ranked team in Division II.

Barry will close out the regular season Saturday at Embry-Riddle.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Barry took a three-point lead with 2:38 to go in the first period when Lexy Schoonover hit a jumper. But the Bucs fell behind by seven at the end of the quarter after the Mocs used a 12-2 run the rest of the way.
  • 2Q - Palmer scored six points in the period, and pulled down four rebounds. Barry went toe-to-toe with Florida Southern in the quarter, just barely getting outscored, 23-21. 
  • 3Q - The Bucs got within seven 2:16 into the third when Schoonover sank a pair of free throws, but the Mocs bumped their lead back to double digits, taking a 66-50 advantage into the final quarter. Schoonover had six points, and went 4-for-4 from the line in the period.
  • 4Q - Lauren Seyranian scored six of her 15 points in the final quarter, but Barry couldn't trim the deficit into single digits.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Palmer recorded her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. She was 10 of 19 from the floor. It was her second double-double in three games.
  • Schoonover scored in double figures (16 points) for the seventh time this year. It was the fourth time in the last five games she reached double figures.
  • Seyranian had 15 points to reach double figures for the 11th time this season. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs play their final game of the season 5 p.m. Saturday at Embry-Riddle.
