MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry's seventh-ranked men's tennis team tripped up No. 33 Flagler, 8-1, Saturday on Homecoming.

The Buccaneers spoiled the return of former Barry All-American Thomas Hipp, who is Flagler's director of tennis and coaches the men's team. Barry swept the doubles, and dropped one singles match in a third set super tiebreaker.

SUMMARY:

• Barry three-time All-American Ahmed Triki won both his singles and doubles matches. It was the second-ranked player in the country's first singles match this year. His singles win came over the 18th-ranked player in the Southeast Region.
• Flagler's 24th-ranked Hermann Gertmann defeated 11th-ranked Carlos Gomez, 0-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-4, at No. 2 singles. It was the Saints' lone win.
• Pierre Montrieul, Nico Dreer, Fabian Pronnet and Vivien Versier all won their singles matches at the Nos. 3-6 positions, respectively..
• Triki and Montrieul combined for their second doubles win of the season at the No. 1 position, this time an 8-5 victory.
• Thomas Bugeaud and Gomez were 8-4 winners at No. 2 doubles.
• Dreer and Versier paired up for the first time this season, authoring an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

NOTEWORTHY:

• Former Barry men's tennis great and assistant coach Thomas Hipp has returned to Miami Shores three times since taking over as the Saints Director of Tennis. His teams are 0-4 against the Bucs, including last year's loss in St. Augustine.
• The Buccaneers are 6-0 in doubles matches to begin the season.
• Barry coach George Samuel moved to within seven wins of his 500th career victory with the Buccaneers men's team.
• Bugeaud, who owns the No. 27 national ranking in singles, has played only doubles matches this season so far.

Barry hosts No. 10 Embry-Riddle 10 a.m. Sunday at Buccaneer Tennis Center to complete Homecoming & Barry Alumni Reunion Weekend.
