Women's Basketball Impeaches Lady Statesmen

Kiara Palmer's double-double led the way

JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Barry Buccaneers evened their record with a 63-52 win over Delta State at the SSC/GSC Crossover at Fred Delay Gym, hosted by Union University on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - Delta State rode the hot hand of Alondrea Rush to a 15-11 lead at the first intermission. Rush hit 3-of-4, all from three-point range, to overcome the six turnovers the Statesmen committed in the period. Ida Andersson paced Barry with five points. | Delta State 15, Barry 11
  • 2Q - The Bucs flipped the script in the second quarter. Kiara Palmer led a balanced attack with six points, while Andersson and Lauren Seyranian each had five. Rush went just 1-for-5 in the period. The Bucs had a chance to take a lead into the locker room, but DSU's Kate Richardson had a steal and a layup at the buzzer to even the game.  | Barry 27, Delta State 27
  • 3Q - Barbara Cousiño led the Bucs on a 9-4 run to open the third quarter, scoring five points on layup and a three-point play, to give the Bucs a 36-31 lead with 5:58 left. The Bucs stretched the lead to 41-35 as Cousiño  scored five more points. | Barry 41, Delta State 37
  • 4Q - Palmer took over in the fourth quarter, as the Bucs pounded the ball inside on the Statesmen. Palmer was 3-for-4 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the line for nine points, as Barry out-scored the Statesmen 22-15 in the frame. Barry took a 54-43 lead ona  pair of Palmer free throws with 4:56 to play and DSU never got closer than nine points the rest of the way. | Barry 63, Delta State 52

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Palmer recorded her first double-double of the season, with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Andersson added 15 points and six boards, while Cousiño had 12 points and five rebounds.
  • Rush led DSU with a game-high 24 points.
  • Barry won the battle on the boards 34-28 and shot .47.1 percent from the floor.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Florida Memorial Lions on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 pm for their home opener. The game, which is part of a doubleheader with the men, who play St. Thomas, is a featured event for Founders' Week.
