Soccer To Take On Panthers This Weekend

Men head to Melbourne, while the women host FIT

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The men's and women's soccer teams take on the Florida Tech Panthers this weekend, with the men heading to Melbourne, Fla., and the women hosting FIT at Buccaneer Field.

After scoring just seven goals in their first six games, the Bucs (4-2-2, 3-1-2 SSC) have scored six goals in the last two games, both wins. The Bucs knocked off Lynn 2-0 in Boca Raton, Fla., on Wednesday. The Panthers (5-4-2, 2-2-1 SSC) were 5-2-1, but have gone 0-2-1 in their last three games, including an 8-2 loss to fourth-ranked Grand Valley State on Wednesday in Michigan.

Barry is now up to fourth in the conference in scoring with 13 goals in eight games. Amanda Traynor continues to lead the way with six goals, tied for second in the league. She has tallied in three straight games. Christy Grimshaw has also found her offensive groove with three of the Bucs six goals in the last two games. Four players, Molly Sharpe, Megan Stow, Brittany Larosa and Carissa Sanchez had two assist each. Melanie Ziegner is second in the league with a .724 goals against average and leads the league with four shutouts in eight games and has allowed more than one goal only twice. 

For the Panthers, Maria Munoz is tied with Traynor with six goals. She and Kiera McCarthy each have three assists to pace the team. Overall, the Panthers are seventh in the SSC in scoring at 1.545 goals per game. Defensively, they are last in the league with a 1.654 goals against average, led by keeper Karlyn Prisco at 1.52 goals against average. Prisco also has four shutouts, but has allowed multiple goals in five of the other seven games.

Men's Soccer - Saturday, Oct. 14, 7:00 pm, Stottler Field

The Bucs (1-4-2, 1-3-1 SSC) are coming off a tough 1-0 loss to #9 Lynn on Wednesday. The Panthers defeated Saint Leo 2-0 on Tuesday. 

The Bucs have tallied just four goals this season, led by Ivan Arenas with two. Defensively, the Bucs have been outstanding, allowing just eight goals in eight games for a .926 goals against average. Marco Sordi has led the way between the pipes with a .935 goals against average and one shutout. His save percentage is 83.8.

The Panthers are the most prolific offense in the SSC, scoring 3.11 goals per game. Brandon Smalley leads a balanced attack with six goals and four assists. Hugo Lopez adds four goals and four assists, while Per Henrik Nag and Solomon Wheatley each have four goals as well. Josh Thomas has five assists to pace the attack. They have been nearly as good defensively, with a 1.00 goals against average. Keeper Christopher Page has a 1.14 goals against average and one shutout. His save percentage is 69.2.
