MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Earlier in the day, these Barry University volleyball women were getting filmed for Monday's College Week on NBC 6. Tuesday night, they were on cruise control for the first two sets against rival Lynn in the Health & Sports Center.
Two sets later, the Buccaneers found themselves in a battle, and it took a sprint to the finish to decide things. Barry hung on to beat Lynn, 25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-27, 16-14 for a key Sunshine State Conference victory.

SUMMARY:
- The Buccaneers jumped out to a 15-10 lead in the opening set on Brittany Reynolds' ace. Lynn tied it at 18, but the Bucs regained control, taking a 23-20 lead on Kristina Filimonova's kill. She added two more kills down the stretch to seal the first set. The Bucs hit .270 in the first set.Â
- Barry fell behind 14-12 in the second set, but Filimonova put a ball away to give the Bucs an 18-16 lead. She added another kill to extend the lead to three. Filimonova and Jaeda Allen's block made it 22-17. Filimonova had a kill, followed by a Fighting Knights attack error and a kill by Allen to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead entering the intermission.
- After dropping the next two sets, which put everything in tension mode, the Buccaneers found themselves down 8-7 in the decisive set. But Kishara Gordon started a 5-0 run with a kill to push Barry in front, 12-8. Filimonova's kill moved Barry to within match point at 14-10, but Lynn staved off elimination by rattling off the next four points to tie it at 14-14. Filimonova sent down a ball, and Allen banged another one through the Fighting Knights blockers to seal the win, setting off a mad celebration on the Bucs side.
- Barry hit .253 to Lynn's .158. The Bucs had 62 digs, while Fighting Knights had 61. Barry outblocked Lynn, 10-6.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Filimonova had a career-high 20 kills. Last year, her season-high was 13 against Lynn. She also hit .447, and had seven blocks.
- Allen had 15Â kills, marking the sixth time she's recorded 10 or more kills this season.Â
- Juliana Tirabassi had her fourth double-double of the season and third in the last four matches after finishing with 24 assists and 10 digs.
- Gordon had seven kills, and hit .316.
- Alexis Boutin and Reynolds each had two of Barry's five aces.Â
- The Bucs hit .344 in the fourth set, while the Fighting Knights hit .147, but Lynn still won the set.
- Barry hit .400 in the final set.
ON THE HORIZON:
Barry will play Valdosta State and Shorter on Friday at the South Region Crossover in Hoover, Ala.
