MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – In a battle of two Buccaneer teams, Barry's 10th-ranked men's basketball squad overcame a game Virgin Islands team Wednesday night to win in the Health & Sports Center. It was Barry's fifth straight win, and fourth in a row at home.
Barry trailed by as many as eight in the first half, but managed to take a two-point lead into the break before pulling away in the second half.

SUMMARY:
- Virgin Islands led for just over seven minutes, but a three-point basket by Arie Williams with 11:38 remaining in the first half gave Barry the lead. Virgin Islands regained control twice more for brief stints -- the last possession at the 9:17 mark on a layup by Rashawn Emanuel.
- Barry built a nine-point lead on a free throw by Adrian Gonzalez with 4:00 remaining in the first half, but Virgin Islands whittled it down to two by the break.
- Barry outscored Virgin Islands, 44-23, in bench points and 31-11 in transition points. The visiting Buccaneers outscored Barry, 20-14, in second chance points.
- Eleven different players scored for Barry.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Barry senior forward Adrian Gonzalez had 32 points, marking the fourth time he's reached 30 this season. He moved into fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list, surpassing both Bobby Latham and Willie Whitfield on Wednesday.
- Barry sophomore forward Marko Tomic started for the first time in his career. This marked just the second time Barry has used a different starting lineup this season.
- Barry senior guard Arie Williams moved into a tie for third place on the school's all-time three-point field goals list. He hit two triples to match Zack Trapp's 186 career three-pointers.
- Barry junior center Kenan Guzonjic did not play for the first time this season. He is a transfer from the University of Colorado.
ON THE HORIZON:
Barry plays at Eckerd 4 p.m. Saturday in a key battle for the top spot in the Sunshine State Conference.
The Buccaneers host Palm Beach Atlantic next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. All Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce members will receive buy-one-get-one ticket specials to next week's doubleheader, which begins with the Bucs women's game at 5:30 p.m.
