LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis players went unbeaten in the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Championships at Florida Southern Friday.
Thomas Bugeaud and
Pierre Montrieul beat Embry-Riddle's Carlos Becke and Juan Couder, 8-4, in the opening round of doubles.
Carlos Gomez and
Vivien Versier beat Eckerd'd Bruno Alves and Connor Masella, 8-1.
Ahmed Triki received a first round bye.
Triki defeated Palm Beach Atlantic's Pietro De Silva, 6-2, 6-1, in the singles Round of 32 after earning an opening round bye. Montrieul beat Rollins' Guilherme Dumit, 6-3, 6-2, and Saint Leo's Chadi Omeis, 6-2, 6-2. Gomez was a 6-0, 6-4 winnner over Eckerd's Eddie Lewis. He also defeated Valdosta State's Davis Stewart by retirement after leading 4-0 in the first set.
Nico Dreer was a 6-7, 6-3, 10-4 winner over West Florida's Serdar Bojadiev before beating Masella, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round. Bugeaud beat Rollins' Patrick Sell, 6-1, 6-0, and Lynn's Mehdi Laleej, 6-2, 6-4.
