LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry newcomer
Carlos Gomez remained alive in singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Championships at Florida Southern Saturday.
Gomez and
Vivien Versier defeated Florida Southern's Miguel Alvarex-Hevia and Fabian Lundberg, 8-3, to reach the doubles quarterfinals.
Gomez beat Embry-Riddle's Juan Couder, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, to advance to the singles quarters. He beat Valdosta State's Xavier Pineda, 7-5, 6-4, to reach Sunday's semifinals.
Ahmed Triki and
Nico Dreer lost to West Florida's Alfonso Castellano and Pablo Tellez, 8-6, in their first match together.
Thomas Bugeaud and
Pierre Montrieul fell to Lynn's Kay Barttmann and JB Mateo, 8-3.Â
Triki defeated West Florida's Warren Kuhn, 7-6, (7-5), 7-6 (7-1). He beat Mateo, 5-7, 6-3, 14-12, to reach the semis.
Bugeaud cruised by West Florida's Sebastian Sanchez, 6-1, 6-0. He lost to Valdosta State's Leo Blay, 6-0, 6-3, in the quarters.
Versier lost to Valdosta State's Fernando Rivas, 6-4, 6-3. Dreer lost to Barttmann, 7-6, 6-4, 14-12.
