WINTER PARK, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneer knocked off second-place Rollins 3-1 at Lake Island Park on Saturday in the first game of their Sunshine State Conference softball series.
Freshman Anieliese Palmeiro (8-3) was outstanding again, carrying a one-hit shutout into the seventh inning before settling for a 3-1 win. She held the hard-hitting Tars (33-10-1, 13-3 SSC) to just two hits and two walks and struck out three.
Kayla Ogle went 3-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases. She scored the first run for the Bucs (2-14, 12-7 SSC) in the third inning when she drew her walk, stole second and came in on a Lynsey Duncan double.
The Bucs added two more runs in the fourth. Sam Busekrus beat out an infield single and scored ahead of a double by Cheyanne Head. Head moved up to third on the throw and scored on a single by Alayna Gallagher.
Nikki Fogle (21-8) took the loss for the Tars, allowing three runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out three in the complete-game effort.
The team will finish out the series with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1:00 pm.
