Softball Swept By Panthers

Bucs fall in both ends of the doubleheader

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a Sunshine State Conference softball doubleheader to the Florida Tech Panthers 6-4 in 11 innings and 11-2 in five innings at Buccaneer Field on Saturday.

In the first game, Barry (9-7, 4-2 SSC) led 3-2 heading into the seventh inning. But Florida Tech's Lexi Smith put the Panthers in front 4-3 with a two-run homer in the top of the inning.

Barry tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Sam Busekrus singled with one out and Lynsey Duncan followed with a double. One out later, Alayna Gallagher singled up the middle to score Busekrus, but Duncan was called out at the plate to end the inning.

The Panthers (19-6, 5-1 SSC) scored twice in the 11th. Emily York doubled and came in on a ball that Hailey Leonard hit over the left field fence. Leonard, though, was called out for failing to touch home plate. Karina Suicava knocking in Audrey Gangloff with the final run.

Duncan (0-2) took the loss for the Bucs, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. Rachel Pence went the distance allowing four runs on 10 hits and three walks in 11 innings.

In the second game, the Panthers scored nine runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-2 win in five innings on the run rule.

Geneva Santos (7-2) started and took the loss for Barry. In a third of an inning, she allowed six runs on three hits, including two homers, and three walks.

Amanda Kahn (4-2) went four innings to earn the win for Florida Tech. She gave up a run on five hits.

The Bucs travel to Mobile, Ala., on Mar. 9 to face Spring Hill and continue on to Lakeland, Fla., for an SSC series at Florida Southern on the weekend.
