MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Saint Leo Lions took the first game of a Sunshine State Conference softball series from the Barry Buccaneers 10-0 in five innings on Thursday night.
The Lions (27-1, 12-1 SSC) scored one in the first, seven in the third and two more in the fourth on 15 hits off three different Buccaneer pitchers.
Stephanie Adkins (11-1) tossed a two-hit shutout over five innings, striking out four. Geneva Santos (9-5) took the loss for the Bucs (14-11, 8-5 SSC). She gave up eight runs on 12 hits and two walks in three innings.
The series concludes on Friday at noon with a doubleheader.
