Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The top-ranked Barry Buccaneers knocked off the New York Tech Bears 7-2 in a men's tennis match postponed from Sunday at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
The Bears (6-1) jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles, only to see the Buccaneers (9-2) storm back to win all six singles matches.
Ahmed Triki and Renato Lombardi gave the Bucs their only point in doubles, beating David Jiang and Tomas Lieb 8-6 at number one.
But the Bears took the other two flights. Rafal Charkiewicz and Rares Ispas defeated Fabian Pronnet and Daniel Ventura 8-5 at number three and Jorge Gonzalez and Matej Selecky made it 2-1 for the Bears with a 9-7 win over Nico Dreer and Franco Echenique at number two.
It was a clean sweep for the Bucs in singles. Twelfth-ranked Lombardi dispatched Lieb 6-4, 6-1 at number four to start the comeback. Number 37-ranked Dreer made it 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Selecky at number two. Ventura made it 4-2 by beating Gonzalez 6-2, 6-3 at number five.
Triki, ranked fifth, clinched the match with a three-set win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Jiang at number one.
Pronnet and Echenique both split sets before winning a super-tiebreaker to claim the point. Pronnet knocked off Charkiewicz 6-4, 3-6 (10-6) at number three, while Echenique made it a clean singles sweep 7-6 (3), 4-6, (10-8) over Ispas at number six.
The Bucs host the Sailfish on Wednesday, Mar. 23 at 3:00 pm.
