MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University women's basketball team beat Eckerd, 85-72, in the final regular season game Saturday.
The Buccaneers (19-8, 10-6 Sunshine State Conference) will host a first round SSC Tournament game 5:30 p.m. Wednesday versus Tampa. Barry's 19 wins are the most since the 2009-10 season when the Bucs went 21-10.
Barry outscored Eckerd, 22-13, in the final quarter. The Bucs hit 6 of 12 field in the fourth quarter. The Tritons (12-13, 6-10) were 6 of 19 from the field in the final period.
Amra Elezovic had 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks for the Buccaneers, who shot 50.9 percent from the floor.
Ines Kerin scored 17 points.
Jackie Perez scored 16 points, and had four assists and two steals. She is three points shy of 1,000 in her career.
Irene Sanchez had 15 points and six boards.
Anna Deegan's three-pointer gave Eckerd a four-point lead at the 5:21 mark of the second quarter, but after
Toni Niebler scored, Elezovic tied the game with a basket in the paint and then buried a triple to put the Bucs ahead, 35-32. Victoria Vine responded with a triple of her own to tie the game. Perez hit a triple to start an 8-0 run to end the first half, giving Barry a 43-35 lead at the break.
Barry outscored Eckerd, 20-11, in the second quarter.
The Tritons knocked down 9 of 18 shots in the third quarter to draw within four. Eckerd's Elisabeth Giegerich tied the game for the fifth time at the 2:23 mark before Kerin canned two triples to push the Buccaneers back in front. Eckerd went 0 for 8 from 3-point range in the final quarter, and the Bucs sank 8 of 10 free throws to hold on for the win. Elezovic scored eight points in the fourth period.
Juhnae Richardson hit two triples in the fourth quarter, and finished with 10 points.
The Bucs were 13 of 22 from long distance. The Tritons hit 10 of 26 triples. Eckerd outscored Bary, 28-18, in the paint.
Nine seniors played their final regular season game in the Health & Sports Center.
