Box Score MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's tennis team opened the season Thursday with a 9-0 win over St. Thomas, an NAIA school from Miami Gardens.
Ninth-ranked
Ahmed Triki and
Renato Lombardi picked up an 8-4 win over Kevin Cubela and Mauricio Fernandez at No. 1 doubles.
Nico Dreer and
Franco Echenique were 8-4 winners over Luis Soto and Juan Abia at the No. 2 position.
Fabian Pronnet and
Daniel Ventura completed the pairs sweep with an 8-2 win over Jermaine Le Grand and Jacobo Nieto.
Lombardi coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Abia for the Bucs first singles point at the No. 2 position. Ventura sealed the win with his 6-0, 6-0 victory over Soto at No. 4. Ventura is in his first year at Barry.
Triki, who owns the nation's No. 5 singles ranking, was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Cubela at No. 1. Echenique beat Josh Rosner, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5. Pronnet posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Le Grand.
Lucas Kogachi, another Bucs freshman, defeated Nieto, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.
Barry will host No. 9 Valdosta State at 10 a.m. Saturday.
